Though peppered with specific choreography used as landmarks for the three performers, Trio is predominantly improvisational. The performers’ traffic pattern is previously determined as are the locations for choreography. However, the behavior generated as they move through the space is synchronized improvisation. The performers must stay in unison although there is no designated leader. Through listening and following playful impulses the dancers make their way across the space, as if they are finishing one another’s physical sentences. The result is quite silly. The tone is supported by Bailey Salisbury’s playful wardrobe design.
